Trusting the process

The theme for my Fundamentals session this week is "Trust".

We will look at trusting the process, trusting the unknown, trusting us.

In other words, we will ask, what are the processes unfolding in us as we are together? What are the new possibilities that are emerging? What do we notice as we consider these questions?

Recently I have been spending a lot of time sitting in a forest, waiting, watching and listening. Occasionally a deer or a squirrel will come past. There are two trees that are surrounded by ceremonial circles of stones and branches. I like to lie next to them.

It is a space of soil and trunk, branch and leaf. I experience it as an invitation to a deep process of restoration and transformation. It is as if the space says, "I will guide you where you need to go next, if you are willing to trust". And: "I will unfold you into who you are becoming next, if you are willing to trust".

And I say, softly, yes, yes, yes.
And I sing, wildly, yes, yes, yes.

This session is the second in a series of twenty-seven that I will offer, inspired by my 500 mile walk across Spain earlier this year. As I undertook the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail, I would, most days, ask someone to choose a piece of music which connected to why they were walking. I received 27 pieces of music in total and I will use each one to inspire a Fundamentals session. The inspiration for “trust” came from the Billy Joel song “Its Always Been a Matter of Trust”.

Listening to the dreams we have for our lives

In March-April this year, I walked 500 miles across Spain on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Most days, I asked someone that I met to choose a piece of music that expressed how their journey was going. When I finished, I had a playlist of 27 songs.

I plan to use each song, week by week, as an inspiration for my Fundamentals session.

The first song, chosen on the first day by a kind-hearted Italian man, is (was) “Sogna, Ragazzo, Sogna”. Or “Dream, Boy, Dream”.

As the title suggests, it is about dreaming.

“I know poets who move rivers with their thoughts
Io conosco poeti che spostano i fiumi con il pensiero

And infinite sailors who know how to talk to the sky
E naviganti infiniti che sanno parlare con il cielo

Close your eyes, boy, and believe only what you see inside
Chiudi gli occhi, ragazzo, e credi solo a quel che vedi dentro”

I love having the song as the opening of my playlist, and as a reminder of the opening of my journey. What better way to begin than with dreams?

Recently, I have been enjoying watching my dreams catalyse into embodied desires. They are alchemising from “I’d love to do that some day”, to “let’s start this today!”.

I dream of cultivating loving romantic partnership. I dream of becoming a father. I dream of giving myself as a teacher, and of earning enough money in that work to provide financial security for myself and my family.

What do you dream of? What is it like to be with that question?

What fears and inhibitions arise in us when we consider sharing and enacting our dreams?

How are our dreams calling to us, from moment to moment?

What is it like to speak as our dreams?

On Wednesday, I’ll begin with an invitation to consider these questions.

May your days be woven with the magic of dreaming.
